Simple Things

I’m excited to share my newest piece, Simple Things, a mixed-media collage measuring 30 by 24 inches. This artwork invites you into a layered world where delicate natural imagery meets vintage charm, all set against a rich, predominantly blue background. At the heart of Simple Things is a framed illustration of a bird perched lightly on a flowering branch, rendered with subtle, natural tones. Around it, I’ve woven textures and fragments of layered papers featuring faded floral patterns and bits of vintage text, blending seamlessly into the backdrop. To the left, a bright orange butterfly pops with warmth and contrast, while a quaint little house with a pointed roof nestles near the bottom left corner. On the right side of the bird, a heart-shaped pendant in deep magenta hangs gracefully, its golden intricate details adding a touch of ornate beauty.

What makes this piece particularly meaningful is its connection to the song Somewhere Only We Know. The lyrics are subtly embedded within the layers, waiting to be discovered by those who look closely. Including these hidden words was a unique part of the creative process, adding an intimate dialogue between the music that inspired me and the visual story I wanted to tell.
